Updated: Aug 9, 2022

Did you know that most everyone in the world is dehydrated? Anyone can become dehydrated, but certain people are at greater risk:

  • Babies, children and the elderly are more at risk of dehydration.

  • People who drink a lot of coffee, alcohol, soda, or eat sugary, wheat filled such as bread, fried and salty foods.

  • People with chronic illnesses. ...

  • People who work or exercise outside.

Symptoms of dehydration in adults and children include:

  • Feeling thirsty!!

  • Dark yellow and strong-smelling urine.

  • Feeling dizzy or lightheaded.

  • Feeling tired.

  • A dry mouth, lips and eyes.

  • Urinating little, and fewer than 4 times a day.

Stress Facts

It's a fact, it's a self-perpetuating cycle: dehydration can cause stress, and stress can cause dehydration. When you're stressed, your adrenal glands produce extra cortisol, the stress hormone, and under chronic stress, your adrenal glands can become exhausted, and resulting in lower electrolyte levels.

Low Energy

Your fatigue can be a sign of dehydration. Whether you're working out or working a desk job, your body needs water to work well and keep cool. If you're thirsty, you're already dehydrated.

Did you get that? If you're thirsty you are already dehydrated!!

Who wants to go to the emergency unit at the hospital for dehydration? Not FUN!

Some of our Cultivo Biointensive crew drink delicious ORGANIC Costa Rica coffee in the morning...However, this adds to dehydration so we up our intake even more on other liquids to compensate. The caffeine in coffee is a diuretic, so it is even more important to drink the amount of liquids recommended or even more to compensate for the coffee. These are suggestions of daily routines to stay hydrated with just a little prep!

CULTIVO DAILY HYDRATION ROUTINE

1. A one Quart Green Smoothie......DAILY! Get the recipe here:___________

2. * A pre-prepped quart of Cultivo Vital Force teas with water and an added MUST... a squeeze of CITRUS!

3. Kombuchas

4. Water, infused with herbs, veggies or fruit such as: cucumber, celery, basil, rosemary, thyme and sometimes combined with citrus water and himalayan salt. I change it up daily.

How Much Liquid should We Be Drinking?

The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine determined that an adequate daily fluid intake is: About 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids a day for men. About 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids a day for women.

I'm a woman so, let's tally it up:

1 Quart Smoothie, 1 Quart Tea, Two 8 oz. Quart Special Water infused with herbs and citrus, 1 8 oz Kombucha.... That's 2 and 3/4 liters of liquid daily. Just the right amount!

How do you know when you've really had enough liquids? When your urine is clear or a very light yellow.
